Arborist Assistant
Help care for Wodonga’s trees, parks and open spaces!
Join Wodonga Council as an Arborist Assistant and play a hands-on role in maintaining the health, safety and beauty of our urban forest. Working alongside a skilled arboriculture team, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor work, teamwork, and contributing to community spaces that residents value every day.
Key aspects of the role:
- Arboriculture and horticultural support
Support the Arborist Coordinator and team with tree planting, pruning, removals, watering, and pest and weed control across Council parks and open spaces. You’ll contribute to seasonal maintenance programs and help keep public spaces safe and well cared for.
- Safe operation of plant and equipment
Operate and maintain a range of arboriculture equipment including chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders and elevated work platforms (EWP). You’ll complete pre-start checks, report faults, and follow Safe Work Method Statements to ensure work is carried out safely and efficiently.
- Teamwork and flexible support
Work collaboratively with the arboriculture team and provide additional labour and plant support to Roads, Natural Resources and Parks & Gardens teams when required. This flexible approach helps maximise Council resources and supports integrated service delivery.
- Customer service and communication
Respond professionally to customer service requests and communicate clearly with team members, supervisors and other Council staff. You’ll help ensure arboriculture services are delivered efficiently and with a strong community focus.
What we’re looking for
- Experience assisting with arboriculture or horticultural maintenance activities, including tree planting, pruning or removals
- Ability to safely operate and maintain arboriculture equipment (chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, EWPs)
- Strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements and a commitment to safe work practices
