Compliance Officer – Ranger

  • Casual Position
  • $39.17 per hour + casual loading and superannuation
  • Great work-life balance

Help keep Wodonga safe, welcoming, and thriving.
At Wodonga Council, we’re looking for a community-focused Compliance Officer – Ranger who’s passionate about making a real difference every day. In this role, you’ll be the friendly face of Council out in the community—educating, guiding, and where needed, enforcing local laws and Victorian legislation to help protect our city’s amenity.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Community patrols and education
Spend time out in the community patrolling local streets, parks, and public spaces. You’ll talk with residents, answer questions, and provide guidance on issues such as animal management, parking rules, fire prevention, and litter control.

  • Investigations and compliance action
Respond to reports of possible breaches—anything from unregistered pets to unsafe parking or littering. You’ll gather evidence, speak with those involved, and decide the right course of action, which may include issuing a warning, infringement, or compliance notice.

  • Animal management
Handle a wide variety of animal-related tasks, from reuniting lost pets with their owners to managing livestock on roadsides. You’ll transport and care for animals safely, including arranging impoundment or assisting with deceased animal collection.

  • Record keeping and reporting
Maintain accurate records of your work by preparing case notes, infringement notices, and briefs of evidence. These records support fair enforcement decisions and, where needed, court or VCAT proceedings.

  • Team and emergency support
Work closely with colleagues in the Compliance team and across Council. You’ll also be part of the emergency response when required—such as fire prevention patrols, after-hours call-outs, or contributing to safety initiatives in the community.

  • Community representation
Act as the face of Council in the community. Whether presenting at a forum, assisting at a school crossing, or representing Council in court, you’ll demonstrate professionalism and fairness to build trust in Council’s compliance services.
