Collections Engagement Officer

 

  • Part-time - Permanent role
  • 30 hours per week 
  • $36.73 per hour + superannuation

Join Hyphen’s friendly team to shape and share a vibrant library collection that reflects Wodonga’s diverse community. In this role you will develop, maintain and promote physical and digital resources, help create engaging programs and activities that connect the community with the collection, support seamless circulation services, and deliver warm, professional customer service across Hyphen.

 

Key aspects of the role

  • Program development and delivery
    Designs and delivers activities that provide the community with ways to connect with the collection and promotes reading, learning and discovery. Creates opportunities for reader advisory and literacy-focused programs that encourage engagement across all ages and abilities.

 

  • Collection development and acquisitions
    Builds and maintains a vibrant, relevant and diverse collection that reflects community needs and borrowing trends. Coordinates acquisitions and supplier relationships to ensure the best use of the collections budget and identifies opportunities for improvements in collections and service delivery.

 

  • High level Customer Service

    Provides professional front-of-house service across Hyphen, creating a welcoming experience for visitors, including assisting customers with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities, to achieve equitable access to council services.

 

  • Create opportunities for community engagement
    Promotes collections through displays, marketing and reader advisory, connecting resources to programs and literacy development.

 

What the ideal candidate will bring

You will bring qualifications and/or experience in a library, museum, education, cultural or customer service setting, along with knowledge of collection management and the role of libraries in community literacy. You are confident with technology and library systems, detail-oriented in administration, and bring strong communication, customer service, and public programming experience to working in a diverse and busy environment. Above all, you are collaborative, adaptable and committed to making Hyphen a welcoming hub for the community.

Key Selection Criteria:  

Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following. 

1.    Qualifications and/or relevant experience in a library, museum, education, cultural or customer service setting.

2.    Experience in collections development preferably in the context of Public Libraries

3.    Experience in developing and delivering public programs

4.    Experience in developing and delivering reader advisory and literacy development activities in relation to the collection

5.    Demonstrated high level of administration skills with an eye for detail

6.    A high level of customer service skills and experience in a busy and varied customer service environment with a focus on cultural sensitivity and meeting the needs of clients from a wide variety of backgrounds.

7.    Commitment and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment as well as the ability to work independently
