Coordinator – Bonegilla Migrant Experience

 

  • Part-time - Permanent role 
  • 28 Hours per week
  • $39.17 per hour + superannuation

Join us in developing and operating the Bonegilla Migrant Experience (BME) – a cultural tourism and community asset of national significance that commemorates post-war migration to Australia and celebrates migrants’ contributions to our national history. In this role, you will ensure site operations, heritage interpretation, visitor facilitation and marketing are delivered to the highest standards, aligned with the BME Service Catalogue and broader cultural services strategies.

 

  • Site Operations and Supervision
    Take ownership of the day-to-day operations of the Bonegilla Migrant Experience, leading a team of staff, volunteers, contractors and work experience students. Ensure the site runs smoothly, maintains high presentation standards, and meets all safety, compliance and operational requirements so visitors enjoy a seamless experience from the moment they arrive.

 

  • Program Development and Marketing
    Help shape the BME’s public profile by supporting the development and promotion of exhibitions, events and educational programs. Collaborate with the Team Leader, Public Programs Officer and Marketing team to build the site’s reputation, attract new audiences and encourage repeat visitation.

 

  • Income Generation and Venue Hire
    Boost the site’s sustainability by managing merchandise sales, coordinating venue hire opportunities, and supporting fundraising initiatives. Identify creative ways to enhance revenue while ensuring offerings remain aligned with BME’s values and visitor expectations.

Key Selection Criteria:  

Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following. 

  1. Proven customer service focus and cultural sensitivity in meeting the needs of clients from a wide variety of backgrounds;   
  2. Demonstrate experience in budgeting, staff and volunteer management, rostering, operational systems and high level administrative skills 
  3. Demonstrated experience in the fields of either culture, events, heritage or tourism settings, and experience in attracting and building visitation within those fields.  
  4. Demonstrate ability to operate with a high degree of flexibility and initiate in a varied and changing work environment.  
  5. Flexibility to accommodate roster on weekends including Saturday and/or Sunday and possible out of hours work.

Prior to commencement, the successful applicant will be required to provide the following.

  • A copy of a recent National Police Check (less than 3 months)
  • A current driver’s license
  • Any other mandatory requirements outlined in the position description (eg. first aid, CPR, WWCC, forklift).

The completion of a pre-employment functional assessment (paid for by the council) might also be required.

If applicable, evidence regarding right to work in Australia will need to be presented.
