The role
Are you ready to step into a role where your leadership shapes community resilience and organisational preparedness? Wodonga Council is looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Emergency Management Coordinator to strengthen our city’s emergency readiness and organisational resilience.
In this forward-thinking role, you’ll coordinate emergency and business continuity planning, collaboratively lead preparedness and recovery efforts, and ensure compliance with key legislation including the Emergency Management Act 2013. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external agencies, facilitate planning, and step into critical roles such as Emergency Management Liaison Officer or Recovery Manager when needed. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and legislative compliance, you'll build capability through planning, training, and hands-on coordination.

Lead Emergency Preparedness
Coordinate emergency management activities and ensure Wodonga Council is ready to respond to any event. You’ll coordinate planning, maintain critical documents, and support compliance with the Emergency Management Act 2013.
Build Business Continuity Strength
Develop, test, and maintain Council’s Business Continuity Management System to meet ISO 22301 standards. Help ensure essential services continue through disruptions, and work collaboratively with embed continuity thinking into daily operations.
Coordinate Community Safety Efforts
Foster a safe, connected, and resilient community, coordinating the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee to review and assure the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP), sub-plans, and Community Emergency Risk Assessments.
Advise with Authority
Provide high-level advice, prepare strategic reports and dashboards, and brief senior leaders and stakeholders to support informed decisions in preparedness, response, and recovery phases.
Train, Engage, Empower
Deliver training sessions, lead emergency exercises, and build awareness across teams. You’ll be a trusted point of contact for emergency and continuity-related knowledge across Council.

Location – Onsite
This role includes the option to work from home, where appropriate, while also requiring onsite presence during standard working hours.
Please note flexibility to work additional hours during emergency events is essential and will be remunerated accordingly in line with Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
Key Selection Criteria:
Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following.
1. Demonstrated experience in emergency management and business continuity planning within a complex organisation
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality emergency and continuity plans, strategic reports, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders, as well as present briefings and deliver internal emergency management training
3. Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and drive change across departments in complex and high-pressure environments
4. Proven ability to manage complex and conflicting work demands while maintaining a strong work ethic, operating independently with minimal supervision, showing initiative, and demonstrating accountability and professional integrity in all tasks
5. Strong risk analysis and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in the context of emergency management, business continuity, and community safety planning within a local government or similar setting
