The role
As an Asset and Environment Compliance Officer you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety maintenance and compliance of Wodongas roads open spaces and environmental lands. This role offers a dynamic mix of fieldwork compliance enforcement and stakeholder engagement to keep our community safe sustainable and thriving.
Key aspects of the role include the following
- Asset Inspection and Maintenance – Conduct routine inspections of roads drainage bridges pathways and open spaces ensuring compliance with the City of Wodonga Road Management Plan.
- Compliance and Enforcement – Investigate breaches of the Wodonga Planning Scheme unauthorized building works and environmental violations. Issue Notices to Comply and enforce local laws.
- Environmental Protection – Monitor and enforce best-practice erosion control and environmental compliance. Respond to complaints and collaborate with regulatory bodies like the EPA.
- Development and Subdivision Oversight – Inspect active residential and commercial sites ensuring compliance with planning permits environmental protection and council policies.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Educate and support builders developers and the community on compliance requirements and best practices.
- Legal and Administrative Duties – Maintain records prepare reports and support legal proceedings for enforcement actions.
Key Selection Criteria
Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following;
- Relevant qualifications and or significant experience including knowledge of relevant legislation planning building and development compliance permits and orders.
- Ability to read and interpret plans undertake inspections to assess compliance against statutory requirements and take appropriate compliance and enforcement action.
- Well-developed communication skills with the ability to clearly and confidently liaise with stakeholders and develop solid working relationships in order to mediate negotiate educate and provide direction within the scope of compliance and enforcement activities.
- Ability to work autonomously and confidently problem-solve situations that require high level critical thinking skills.
- Ability to demonstrate strong personal values that align with council including the ability to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of situations.
