The Role

The Community Development Coordinator-casual, fosters an inclusive, healthy, and connected community. The role involves managing community development projects, engaging diverse community groups, and building collaborative partnerships. Key responsibilities include stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and facilitating community events and campaigns. Success relies on strong project planning and management skills, effective communication, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and self-determination.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a person who possesses the following experience, knowledge, personal attributes, and competencies:

  • Project Delivery – Manage multiple community development projects across all phases, including project planning, stakeholder engagement, project implementation, tracking deliverables, budget management, and evaluation/reporting.
  • Drive and Contribute to Plans and Strategies – Contribute to the delivery of Council’s Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan.
  • Engage with the Community – Work with community members from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, different ages, abilities, and genders to ensure their voices and needs are represented and addressed.
  • Advocate for the Community – Represent community interests within relevant forums and platforms, amplifying their voices and promoting empowerment and self-determination.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Qualification – Possess a qualification and/or work experience in community development, health, social services, cultural development, or a similar discipline with transferrable skills and experience.
  2. Project Management Expertise – Experience in managing community projects or events throughout their lifecycle, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organisational goals.
  3. Communication Skills – Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and mobilise community members, facilitate group discussions, and represent the organisation in diverse forums.
  4. Cultural Competency – Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including First Nations communities, CALD groups, and marginalised populations.
  5. Partnership and Collaboration – Proven ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, fostering relationships that drive shared goals and objectives.
  6. Leadership and Supervision – Leadership skills, including the ability to supervise volunteers effectively, provide guidance, support, and mentorship, fostering a positive team environment.

The successful applicant will be required to provide the following:

  • A copy of a recent National Police Check (less than 3 months old).
  • A current driver’s license.
  • Any other mandatory requirements outlined in the position description (e.g., first aid, CPR, WWCC, forklift).
  • Completion of a pre-employment functional assessment (paid for by the council) may also be required.
  • Evidence regarding the right to work in Australia, if applicable.
