This role will require you to be onsite during working hours, with some weekend and after-hours work required.
The role
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring Wodonga Council engages and informs the community, stakeholders, and staff through effective consultation, engagement, and communication activities in line with the Local Government Act 2020 and the Council’s Community Engagement Policy. This position provides consultation and communications support, offers strategic advice to leadership, and leads engagement components of the Council Plan. Key duties include developing and implementing engagement plans, fostering stakeholder relationships, managing content for council channels, and delivering community engagement initiatives, including after-hours support as required.
Key aspects of the role include the following;
- Design and execute community engagement plans that align with the council's Community Engagement Policy and the Local Government Act 2020.
- Offer high-level consultation support and strategic communication advice to the CEO, senior leadership and internal teams on key initiatives, ensuring alignment with council goals and objectives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, stakeholders, and internal staff to foster trust, enhance collaboration and support effective engagement.
- Create, manage and distribute engaging content across the council’s communication channels, including websites, social media, newsletters and email platforms, ensuring timely and relevant messaging.
- Measure the success of community engagement initiatives, track performance metrics, and provide feedback and improvement recommendations to senior management.

Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following.
1. Relevant qualifications and experience, and a demonstrated knowledge of community engagement.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully deliver community engagement plans.
3. Demonstrated excellent communications, professional writing and customer service skills.
4. Demonstrated experience in working with websites, social media and other online tools.
5. Demonstrated experience in working with and engaging stakeholders in a variety of settings.
6. Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work to achieve set objectives.
