 The Role  

Developing and maintaining a relevant, exciting and engaging collection for Hyphen Wodonga Library Gallery which promotes reader engagement and provides opportunities for lifelong learning. Whilst, supporting access, engagement and circulation of the collection including print, e-books, e-audiobooks, magazines, the curation, ordering and display of the library collection. The role encompasses ongoing relationships with suppliers, stakeholders and  Public Libraries Victoria, to  provide Hyphen information and customer service to all Hyphen patrons  

  

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with Engagement Coordinator to undertake acquisitions which are in line with borrowing trends, customer surveys and relevant for the Wodonga Community 
  • Develop opportunities for increased engagement with the collection (digital and physical) including public progams, marketing, connect the collection to public awareness days eg Reconciliation Week, 16 Days of Activism, Pride Month 
  • Support the Team Leader – Hyphen to update the Collection Guidelines annually  
  • Oversee the operation of the inter-library loans process, courier deliveries and items on hold.  
  • Ensure end processing of materials not supplied as shelf ready is undertaken in accordance with Hyphen Wodonga standards.  
  • Co-ordinate library material repairs, including print, magazines and DVD. 
  • Develop systems to track, report and evaluate expenditure of the collections budget and make recommendations to the Library Engagement Coordinator and the Team Leader  
  • Use software to manage collections and undertake tasks, reporting and analysis, including the library management system, collection management tools, the Microsoft Office suite and general business administration applications.  
  • Facilitate access to an e-collection for library users that is aligned with customer needs and optimises available budget.  

 

Key Selection Criteria 

  1. Qualifications and/or relevant experience in a library, museum, education, cultural or customer service setting. 
  2. Experience in collections development preferably in the context of Public Libraries  
  3. Experience in developing and delivering reader advisory and literacy development activities in relation to the collection  
  4. Demonstrated high level of administration skills with an eye for detail  
  5. A high level of customer service skills and experience in a busy and varied customer service environment with a focus on cultural sensitivity and meeting the needs of clients from a wide variety of backgrounds. 
  6. Commitment and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment as well as the ability to work independently
