The role
This is a senior role that will lead the team responsible for a broad portfolio of work and programs that deliver on Council’s waste management agenda.
Key aspects of the role include the following.
- Provide direction and specialist advice on all waste management issues to council.
- Oversee the various activities at the Resource Recovery Centre, street sweeping functions, street litter functions and any related waste management opportunities.
- Represent council on any technical advisory committees dealing with waste management or resource recovery and also the Halve waste committee.
- Provide effective leadership for Resource Recovery Centre staff that ensures the establishment and ongoing operation of effective service, and promotes a positive response to organisational and operational change;
- Ensure the relevant reporting to State Government bodies occurs
- Ensure that reporting requirements for the Victorian Environmental Protection Authority are met;

Key Selection Criteria:
Our ideal candidate will be able to show us their:
- Relevant tertiary qualification, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
- Demonstrated experience developing, guiding and implementing waste management strategies within a similar sized organisation.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with a proven ability to use initiative, investigate issues, collect and analyse data and make recommendations on solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to provide staff leadership and be an effective member of a wider team.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and manage health and safety systems in a similar work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage substantial operating and capital budgets.
- Substantial experience in managing, and negotiating within, large and complex contracts.

Prior to commencement, the successful applicant will be required to provide the following.
- A copy of a recent National Police Check (less than 3 months)
- A current driver’s licence
- Any other mandatory requirements outlined in the position description (eg. first aid, CPR, WWCC, forklift).
The completion of a pre-employment functional assessment (paid for by the council) might also be required.
If applicable, evidence regarding right to work in Australia will need to be presented.
