We are looking for a highly motivated leader. You will drive the strategic and operational functions focusing on council’s statutory planning, building services and strategic planning delivering great outcomes for our regional city.

The Role 

The Manager Planning and Building Services is responsible for providing strong leadership and direction for the council’s planning and building teams. This includes provision of strategic advice to council and other stakeholders in relation to the development and use of all land and the community that it supports.

The Manager Planning and Building Services will oversee complex strategic and statutory planning functions to achieve the the council’s objectives in building a sustainable city. The role will implement development principles, policies and practices to achieve high quality of life outcomes. 

About you 

Use your exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively manage complex and conflicting stakeholder objectives while maintaining productive working relationships. A planning qualification is not essential but you will need a strong leadership background with experience developing high-performing teams and the ability to pick up the technical nous and expertise. 

To be successful in the role you will be a great team player who is quick to develop good relationships, is driven, hardworking, collaborative, solutions-oriented and passionate in delivering quality outcomes for our organisation. 

As the successful candidate, you will also be able to demonstrate the below key selection criteria. 

1.    Significant stakeholder management skills including the demonstrated ability to deliver major projects while navigating conflicting and controversial objectives.

2.    Detail your experience in the planning and building functions or your proven ability to quickly acquire new knowledge in a complex and regulatory environment.

3.    Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, apply sound judgement and show political nous.

4.    Excellent communication and leadership skills.

5.    The ability to build, develop and support high-performing teams.

6.    Demonstrated experience in business and organisational planning, high-level report writing and administrative skills.
